U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday, Aug. 25, that he was considering changing Lake Ontario’s name to "Lake America" as the trade war between the United States and Canada escalates. The lake is one of North America’s five Great Lakes and borders Ontario and New York. Canada’s minister responsible for U.S. trade, Dominic LeBlanc, said the federal government would not respond to the daily social-media posts of the president or his cabinet secretaries. Trump’s proposal follows his change of the Gulf of Mexico’s name to the Gulf of America last year.
