Presentation startup Gamma has acquired Lica, an Accel-backed design startup, to establish a design research lab led by Lica co-founders Priyaa Kalyanaraman and Purvanshi Mehta. Founded in 2023, Lica initially converted screenshots and recordings into project presentations and videos before focusing on marketing videos for e-commerce sites that followed brand guidelines. The company raised $4 million in 2024 from Accel, South Park Commons, Village Global and other investors. Gamma will continue developing presentation tools and image generation while exploring fluid, multimodal presentations and other visual communication methods. The companies said their shared goal is to make visual communication easier, with Lica contributing research into adapting AI models to different audiences and preferences. Gamma did not disclose products planned from the acquisition. The deal comes as AI presentation startups attract significant funding and consolidation, including OpenAI’s acquisition of NextSlide earlier this month.
