U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, Aug. 25, that all mines had been detonated or removed from international waters in the Strait of Hormuz, and that Iran had been warned any ship or boat laying new mines would be destroyed. Trump said in a Truth Social post that the United States was using its Space Force to watch "every square inch" of the strategic waterway, declaring that a "Zero Tolerance policy on mine placement" was in force. Although the United States and Iran have not conducted air strikes against each other's militaries for weeks, attacks on vessels in the strait have continued as both sides compete for control of the passage. Oil shipments through the strait were running at 5 million barrels per day on Monday, down from more than 20 million barrels per day before the war, according to provisional Vortexa ship-tracking data. That earlier level represented about one of every five barrels consumed worldwide.
