German business sentiment has improved in the latest survey, with Commerzbank describing a broad-based brightening in the business climate across sectors. Manufacturing and services led the gains, although the overall index remains below its long-term average. The business climate indicator measures managers’ assessments of current conditions and expectations for the coming six months. Commerzbank attributed the improvement to easing supply-chain pressures, a robust labor market and resilient consumer demand, which have offset high energy costs and tighter monetary policy. The development may indicate that Germany, Europe’s largest economy, can avoid a deeper downturn and could support investment, hiring and domestic demand. It may also influence the European Central Bank’s future rate decisions as policymakers balance inflation control with economic growth. Commerzbank cautioned that the recovery remains fragile and could be undermined by geopolitical tensions, persistent inflation or a slowdown in global trade. A sustained improvement could strengthen growth prospects across the eurozone, while a reversal would revive recession fears. The latest data therefore offer a cautiously optimistic outlook and suggest that the worst may be over, while leaving open the possibility of a gradual recovery in the coming months.
