Highland Copper Company Inc. received final approval from the Michigan Strategic Fund for US$50 million in performance-based Strategic Site Readiness Program grants supporting its fully permitted Copperwood copper project and related infrastructure in Gogebic County, Michigan. The award includes US$44,971,691 for Highland subsidiary Copperwood Resources Inc. and US$5,028,309 for the Gogebic County Road Commission. The road commission also secured a US$7,542,463 Michigan Department of Transportation grant for County Road 519 improvements. The funding is subject to a definitive agreement with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Highland securing commitments for US$150 million in additional project financing by March 31, 2028, as well as establishing at least 380 qualified jobs. Highland said the grants strengthen Copperwood’s overall financing alongside a Letter of Interest from the U.S. Export Import Bank.
