Canada will impose counter-tariffs (retaliatory import taxes) on more than 700 US-made products in response to new US import taxes, Bloomberg reported. The tariffs, due to take effect on Sept. 8, will reach 50% and cover goods including steel, aluminum, furniture, golf clubs, milk and apparel. The targeted products accounted for about C$27.6 billion, or $19.9 billion, of US imports in 2024. Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government said the measures are aimed at industries harmed by US protectionism. Milk, cream and whey will face a 50% levy, while cheese and curd will be subject to a 25% tariff.
