SpaceX (SPCX) stock rose 2.79% Tuesday morning after President Donald Trump praised Space Force in a Truth Social post, prompting traders to question whether the message influenced the move. Trump said the US Navy had cleared every mine from the Strait of Hormuz and warned Iran against placing new ones, then said Space Force was monitoring the area as well as Pickaxe Mountain and three already destroyed nuclear sites. SpaceX has billions of dollars in Space Force-related contracts, including a $2.29 billion Space Systems Command contract awarded in May to build a military data network and a $1.6 billion order in July for 18 Falcon 9 launches. However, SPCX was already up more than 1% in premarket trading, and the post appeared an hour after the New York open. The stock had fallen 1.4% to $135 on Monday, making part of Tuesday’s gain a possible recovery. Other potential catalysts included a JPMorgan price target of $240, implying nearly 80% upside based on the company’s artificial intelligence bets, and a financial disclosure showing Trump bought $15,001 to $50,000 of SPCX on June 23. TipRanks data shows 33 analysts rate the stock Moderate Buy, with an average target of $228.59. Unlike a 2016 Trump post that singled out Lockheed Martin and its F-35 program, Tuesday’s message named no company, cost or contract, and no analyst linked the gain to it. SPCX gained 24% in August, but about 370 million insider shares are due to unlock in September, creating a potential supply wave that may matter more to shareholders than a single presidential post.
