Biohaven Ltd. and Yale University won a combined $4 million judgment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware against Avilar Therapeutics and RA Capital Management GP. The judgment, entered by United States District Judge Jennifer L. Hall on August 24, 2026, followed a July 24 jury verdict finding that Avilar and RA Capital willfully and maliciously misappropriated a Yale trade secret related to the MODA targeted protein degradation platform, while RA Capital separately breached its 2019 confidentiality agreement with Yale. Yale received $2 million for the contract breach and $1 million for trade secret misappropriation, while Biohaven received $1 million for trade secret misappropriation. The case arose from confidential discussions about a potential investment and partnership after Yale professor Dr. David Spiegel presented MODA in 2018. Biohaven and Yale filed suit in March 2023, and the trial began July 20, 2026. Post-trial motions may still be filed, and the judgment remains subject to the court’s consideration of those motions.
