Canada will raise its counter-tariff on US steel and aluminum to 50% as Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government responds to new US levies. The measures take effect Sept. 8 and cover about C$27.6 billion, or $20 billion, in US imports, roughly matching the value affected by US tariffs on Canadian goods. New 50% duties will also apply to products including golf clubs, smartphones, video-game consoles, apparel, fish, furniture, fresh cheese, and freezers.
