Altcoins captured 65% of Binance trading volume at the height of the August rally, their largest share in two years, according to CryptoQuant data published August 25. Bitcoin accounted for 21% and ether 13.6%, while Bitcoin’s break above $80,000 helped lift 19 of the 20 largest liquid altcoins by more than 12% between Aug. 18 and Aug. 25, Bitfinex said. Bitcoin gained close to 30% from its range lows after breaking above $67,000 on Aug. 19 and surpassed $81,000 on Aug. 25. Bitfinex identified $80,000 to $81,000 as key resistance and $77,100 to $81,000 as the near-term range. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded seven consecutive positive sessions and attracted $1.92 billion from Aug. 17-21, absorbing roughly 12 times the Bitcoin mined during that period. Altcoin market capitalization rose about $135 billion, while TOTAL3, excluding Bitcoin and Ethereum, increased 21% to $791.5 billion; the total cryptocurrency market reached close to $2.74 trillion by the third week of August. Ether rose 31.2% in seven days, Zcash more than 50%, XRP more than 45% and Aave more than 40%, while Hyperliquid reached a new all-time high and Ethereum, Solana and Dogecoin gained 20%-30%. Tron rose 1%. Ethereum ETFs recorded their strongest weekly inflows since early October, and XRP ETFs their best week in three months. Despite the surge, the Blockchaincenter Altcoin Season Index stood at 37 on August 26, below the 75-point threshold confirming that 75% of the top 50 coins had outperformed Bitcoin over 90 days. Higher volume and market capitalization indicate increased activity but do not prove a direct transfer of capital from Bitcoin into altcoins or confirm a sustained altcoin season.
