Visa is pursuing two separate South Korean digital-asset partnerships: a strategic agreement with Shinhan Financial Group to test stablecoin issuance, transfers, cash-in redemption, card settlement and AI-powered payment models; and a roadmap with Dunamu, operator of Upbit, for stablecoin payments, global remittances, OUSD business models and AI-managed agentic commerce. Both initiatives remain developmental and are to proceed under applicable laws and regulatory requirements as Seoul works on the Digital Asset Basic Act and bank-led KRW stablecoin proposals. Shinhan’s near-term focus is B2B and corporate cross-border settlement, while Dunamu and Visa are targeting broader real-world digital-asset payments and next-generation financial services. Visa and its partners have not disclosed key commercial details such as the stablecoins, pilot sizes, backing, settlement currencies, timelines or redemption arrangements.
