POSCO International (047050) has launched an electronic bill of lading consortium with POSCO Flow, global shipping line ZIM, Hana Bank, Korea Trade Network (KTNET) and Taewoong Logistics (124560.KQ). The members will build infrastructure for issuing and transacting e-B/Ls, expand adoption among shippers and financial institutions, and cooperate on regulatory improvements and legislation. The agreement follows a July pilot using ZIM's WaveBL platform for an auto-parts export from Busan to Charleston in the United States. POSCO International expects wider e-B/L adoption to reduce trade-document circulation times to within hours, cut international courier and document-processing costs by up to 80%, and lower carbon emissions. It also plans to develop an e-Nego system for digitized trade-finance procedures and apply e-B/Ls incrementally across import and export operations.
