HP has signed a multi-year global patent cross-licensing agreement with Huawei covering Wi-Fi technology, including the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard. The deal gives HP access to Huawei patents for computers and peripherals and Huawei access to HP patents, though financial terms were not disclosed. HP described it as a routine licence for technology used across the industry rather than the beginning of a broader commercial relationship, stating it is a standard-essential patent licence covering Wi-Fi technology that is not new. The agreement follows HP’s earlier agreement through the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool and highlights Huawei’s effort to monetize standards-related intellectual property despite U.S. restrictions. Huawei says its Wi-Fi patents were used in more than 1.6 billion consumer electronic devices excluding smartphones as of the end of last year, while GreyB estimates the company holds more than 600 Wi-Fi 7 patent families. Huawei has more than 165,000 valid registered patents worldwide and has concluded more than 260 licensing agreements with major ICT companies.
