SGC Energy’s AI infrastructure unit has formed a public-private partnership with Jeonbuk State, Gunsan City and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation for an ₩872 billion ($628.5 million) AI data center in Gunsan. Korea Investment & Securities is participating as a financial investor and lead financial arranger, investing in the project company and arranging project financing. The modular facility is planned to start at 60 megawatts, expand in stages to 300MW and begin operations in the first quarter of 2028. The partners aim to complete permits and construction filings by the third quarter of this year and begin full construction in the fourth quarter. The project is planned for about 115,000 square meters owned by SGC Energy in Gunsan National Industrial Complex 2, with tenants secured in advance. Its coastal location may enable seawater cooling, while an on-site self-generation plant could help supply power, addressing two major data center operating costs.
