KB Kookmin Bank will launch KB Byeolbyeol Account 2 with Starbucks on the 1st of next month, following the original product introduced last April. The new account is limited to 300,000 customers, up from 200,000, and is open to individuals aged 14 or older with one account allowed per person. Customers can apply through the KB Star Banking app or the embedded finance section of the Starbucks app without installing another application. The account offers a first-year rate of up to 2.0% before tax, consisting of a 0.1% base rate and preferential interest of up to 1.9 percentage points on average balances of 3 million won ($2,200) or less. Starbucks app easy payments of at least 3,000 won ($2.2) can earn up to 15 Stars a month, triple the first edition's monthly maximum. Customers may also receive Americano coupons for meeting monthly deposit or KB Kookmin Card payment conditions, subject to the product's overall limits. A pre-launch roulette event will run in the Starbucks app through October 12 for the first 100,000 participants. The launch comes as South Korean banks compete for loyal customers of partner brands and new deposit channels. Rival products include Shinhan Bank's Olive Young SOL Account, Woori Bank's Samsung Wallet Money Woori Account and Hana Bank's Karrot Money Hana Account, which offer higher headline interest rates but different reward structures. The first Byeolbyeol Account sold out its 200,000-account allocation within four months.
