Bitcoin’s move above $80,000 revived South Korean demand for overseas virtual-asset-related stocks and leveraged ETFs. Korea Securities Depository data for August 24-27 showed net purchases of $44.67 million in Bitmain, described as an Ethereum digital-asset treasury company and the world’s largest Ethereum holder, making it the seventh-most purchased overseas stock. Investors also bought $18.96 million of the Volatility Shares 2x Ether ETF and $10.09 million of the 2x Bitcoin Strategy ETF. In the week ending August 25, they purchased $20.57 million of ETHU, $11.01 million of BITX and $6.52 million of BITU; ETHU rose 62.4%, while BITX and BITU each gained more than 47%. Additional purchases included Circle at $27.34 million and Coinbase at $14.92 million. The activity reflects expectations of a further crypto rebound and potentially friendlier U.S. digital-asset policies under the Trump administration ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, but leveraged ETFs can amplify losses and diverge from twice the underlying asset’s longer-term return.
