Shiba Inu has joined Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin as one of six tokens supported by Laser Digital Japan, the digital-assets division of Nomura Holdings. The move followed the platform’s exchange registration from Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA), the country’s financial regulator, on August 21, 2026—the first new crypto exchange license issued by the FSA in four years. Laser Digital Japan plans to begin with liquidity services before expanding into broader institutional trading options. SHIB had already secured a foothold in Japan through the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association’s Green List in November 2025 and Rakuten Wallet’s SHIB/JPY trading pairs in April 2026. The token also reclaimed its 200-day moving average for the first time in 2026, while its market capitalization stabilized between $3.22 billion and $3.26 billion after roughly 11 months of decline. Potential tax changes for Green List assets could further affect SHIB demand, as Japanese crypto gains can currently be taxed as miscellaneous income at rates of up to 55%.
