AWS plans to acquire DuckLabs, the Amsterdam-based company behind DuckDB, with completion expected in early September 2026. Founders Hannes Mühleisen and Mark Raasveldt will continue leading the technical direction, while DuckDB, DuckLake and Quack will remain free and open source under the independent DuckDB Foundation and MIT License. The companies have collaborated since 2024, and DuckLabs’ team will remain in Amsterdam after joining AWS.
