The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk sea freight index rose 2.1% to 3,107 on Thursday, extending its advance to a sixth consecutive session and reaching its highest level since June 3. The index tracks rates for capesize, panamax and supramax vessels carrying dry bulk commodities. The capesize index gained 2.1% for a sixth straight day to 5,138, also its highest since June 3. The panamax index rose 2.1% for a fifth session to 2,292, its highest since August 12, while the supramax index edged up 0.1% to 1,645. The advance followed a 4.4% rise to 3,056 on Wednesday, when capesize rates surged and Typhoon Narra disrupted South China Sea shipping routes, contributing to higher freight costs.
