U.S. stocks traded lower midway through Wednesday’s session, with the Dow Jones index down more than 150 points, or 0.30%, at 53,419.33. The NASDAQ fell 0.27% to 26,081.96 and the S&P 500 declined 0.07% to 7,671.71. Industrials gained 1%, while consumer discretionary stocks fell 0.7%. J.M. Smucker Co shares rose about 3% after first-quarter earnings and sales exceeded estimates and the company raised its FY27 guidance above forecasts. Cre8 Enterprise surged 180%, Abercrombie & Fitch jumped 34% and YY Group Holding gained 72%, while Greenland Mines, Wetour Robotics and Qfin Holdings declined sharply. Oil, gold, silver and copper all fell. European shares closed higher, while Asian markets were mostly higher. The PCE price index (a measure of consumer inflation) rose 3.7% year over year in July, above the 3.6% forecast. U.S. second-quarter GDP growth matched expectations at a 1.5% annualized rate, while personal income, spending and durable-goods orders increased.
