India’s industrial output growth slowed to 6.7% year-on-year in July, according to Index of Industrial Production data, as mining activity contracted and growth in manufacturing and electricity eased. The reading compared with a revised 8.8% increase a month earlier and was above the 6% pace economists polled by Reuters had expected. Manufacturing output rose 7.3% after a revised 9.5% in June, electricity generation increased 8.7% after a revised 11.3%, and mining declined 0.9% after revised growth of 1.6%. Capital goods output rose 16.1%, consumer durables grew 10.5%, and consumer non-durables fell 1%. Industrial output in April–July advanced 6.3%, compared with 4% a year earlier. An alternative account has put overall July growth at 6.8%, with different mining and electricity readings, underscoring discrepancies between reported figures.
