Buc-ee’s plans to prioritize conservative, business-friendly states for future locations after criticism of its lawsuits against small businesses over allegedly similar branding. CEO Arch “Beaver” Aplin III said the company is building in many places but values states with strong workforces and communities that appreciate its investment. The Texas-based chain operates more than 50 locations across the U.S. and said last year it was targeting 70 locations in 17 states by 2027. The latest criticism centers on a trademark lawsuit against Beaver’s Mini Mart in Beavercreek, Ohio, over its beaver logo, which Buc-ee’s said could confuse customers. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine called the case “absurd.”
