Lam Research Corp. has begun construction of a new 120,000-square-foot research and development lab in Tualatin, Oregon, as the first milestone in a planned investment of more than $3 billion in its global laboratory network over five years. The initiative is designed to increase Lam’s annual experimentation capacity by more than 50% across specialized facilities in the United States, Asia and Europe, with an integrated 24/7 operating model intended to compress semiconductor process-development cycles by up to 2.5 times. The Tualatin lab will support advanced logic, memory and packaging technologies, including high-bandwidth memory applications that are benefiting from demand for AI and high-performance computing. Lam expects the facility to open in 2028 and to expand cleanroom capacity at its Tualatin R&D center by more than 50%. The broader campus expansion is projected to create about 900 construction jobs and $500 million in economic output over three years, followed by more than 400 new Lam positions and an annual economic contribution to Oregon exceeding $1.8 billion. Those projections are forward-looking and depend on construction, market, customer, supply-chain, trade and other conditions.
