Former JPMorgan Chase executive Jes Staley told the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that he repeatedly shared confidential and market-sensitive information with Jeffrey Epstein, including the bank’s communications with the Federal Reserve during the 2008 financial crisis, $44 billion in private bank inflows over two weeks, his compensation and details of pending deals. The House Oversight Committee released a transcript of the questioning, during which Staley also testified that he visited Epstein’s private island three times, went to his townhouse dozens of times and had sex with one of Epstein’s assistants around 2010. Staley said he signed documents related to Epstein’s trust in 2014 and a trust amendment in 2015, but later declined to serve because he did not want to be associated with the estate and received no compensation. He said he believed he had authority to disclose information when he considered it appropriate and maintained that, despite a close professional relationship, he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes.
