South Korea's Shinsegae Group will split SSG.com into a grocery-focused surviving company and a new lifestyle entity tentatively named Shinsegae Mall. SSG.com's board approved the plan on the 27th, with an extraordinary shareholder meeting expected in late October and the split scheduled to take effect on December 1. The move reverses the 2019 merger of E-Mart Mall and Shinsegae Mall and is intended to give each business a more independent decision-making structure. E-Mart and Shinsegae will initially own stakes in both companies after the spin-off, while later share swaps or other transactions could align SSG.com with E-Mart's grocery operations and Shinsegae Mall with Shinsegae's fashion, beauty and lifestyle businesses. The restructuring follows the purchase of an outside investor's 30% stake for 1.2711 trillion won and is viewed as a key step toward completing the separation of the siblings' business groups.
