Indonesia’s IDX Composite rose 38 points, or 0.6%, to 6,558 in early Friday trading, extending gains from the previous session after overnight strength on Wall Street improved investor sentiment. The market was poised for a second consecutive weekly advance, up about 0.4% so far. Investors awaited Chair Kevin Warsh’s debut Jackson Hole speech for clues on the Federal Reserve’s rate path, while domestic attention focused on the House of Representatives’ expected announcement of the Bank Indonesia governor candidate. Confidence was also supported by Thursday’s orderly Jakarta protest, which caused no major security disruptions. Gains were led by energy, financial and non-cyclical shares, including Petrindo Jaya Kreasi, Elang Mahkota Teknologi, Bank Central Asia and Sumber Alfaria Trijaya. Upside remained limited by caution ahead of August inflation data and July trade figures due next week, with El Niño risks raising concern about food prices.
