Switzerland’s employment level rose to 5.698 million in the second quarter of 2024 from a revised 5.537 million in the previous quarter, an increase of 161,000 jobs, according to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs. Services led the gains, with manufacturing and construction also contributing. The increase, alongside low unemployment and steady job-vacancy rates, points to a tight and resilient labor market that could support household income, consumer spending and domestic demand. It may also add to inflationary pressure, keeping the Swiss National Bank focused on wage growth and price stability as global uncertainty persists.
