Bukwang Pharmaceutical will invest 24 billion Korean won ($17.4 million) to build an automated warehouse at its Ansan Plant in Gyeonggi Province, with construction starting this month and completion and full operation targeted for September 2027. The facility will triple storage capacity from 1,500 cells to 4,500 and support an additional 200 million tablets of annual output, worth about 26 billion Korean won in sales. Its vertical design will increase building height from 13 meters to 45 meters, while automated racks, stacker cranes, a Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-compliant equipment will integrate the receiving, storage and shipping of finished drugs and raw materials. Handling time per cell is expected to drop from 10 minutes to 38 seconds, and staffing needs by about 60%. The project will consolidate seven storage sites and help relieve congestion at the existing manual warehouse as Bukwang prepares for its target of producing 1.2 billion tablets annually by 2029.
