The pan-European STOXX 600 fell 0.4% to 653.77 points as of 0843 GMT on Thursday, with a 1.5% rise in technology stocks, fueled by Nvidia's forecast of a 70% increase in revenue next fiscal year, unable to offset declines elsewhere. Shares of AT&S, Soitec and Computacenter rose between 4.7% and 6.9%, while personal and household goods, chemicals, and food and beverages fell between 1% and 1.4%. Swissquote senior analyst Ipek Ozkardeskaya said Europe's limited technology exposure could leave its indexes lagging technology-heavy U.S. markets. Gains were also restrained by persistent inflation and expectations of further monetary tightening by major central banks. Germany's DAX rose 0.2% as consumer sentiment was expected to improve into September. Oil fell more than $1 on hopes that talks between Qatar and Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and ease war-related supply disruptions. Gold rose 0.08%, while bitcoin and ether gained 1.9% and 2.6%, respectively, amid renewed interest in dollar debasement trades (strategies seeking protection from currency erosion). Investors were also awaiting Warsh's speech at Jackson Hole on Friday after stronger-than-expected inflation increased bets modestly on a rate hike next month. Pernod Ricard fell 6.6% after its FY26 sales slightly missed expectations, affected by weakness in the U.S. and China.
