Nextrade, South Korea's alternative trading system, is reviewing a single-price opening auction for its premarket as early as mid-January after small trades sharply moved prices, including SK hynix reaching its daily floor on one share. The proposed auction would collect orders during a set window and execute them at one price, reducing distortions caused by thin early-session liquidity. Nextrade also plans to introduce a static volatility interruption (VI), a two-minute trading pause for unusually priced orders, from the 14th of next month. Operating details for the opening auction remain undecided, while the Korea Exchange has raised concerns about a separate auction but regulators have become more supportive as price-stability concerns increased.
