CoinDCX has listed Tether Gold (XAUT) and introduced a Systematic Investment Plan starting at ₹100, the exchange said on August 27 in a communication shared exclusively with The Crypto Times. XAUT, issued by Tether-affiliated TG Commodities Limited, represents one fine troy ounce of gold held in Swiss vaults and trades on Ethereum and TRON. With the token priced above ₹5.2 lakh at international spot rates, the SIP buys only a small fraction of an ounce. The product gives Indian users 24/7 trading and fractional gold exposure through a domestic exchange, but gains fall under India’s Virtual Digital Asset regime: 30% tax plus a 4% cess, 1% TDS on transfers after annual thresholds, and no loss setoff or carry-forward. Direct redemption requires at least 430 tokens, roughly one London Good Delivery bar, and delivery through Switzerland, making it impractical for most retail investors. The listing also leaves open questions involving FEMA, SEBI, RBI and GST, while adding tokenized gold to a domestic market facing reduced Sovereign Gold Bond availability.
