The HD Hyundai Heavy Industries branch of the Korean Metal Workers' Union has set a phased strike schedule beginning Sept. 2 after 17 rounds of unsuccessful wage and collective bargaining talks. Executive officers and delegates will stage a seven-hour partial strike on Sept. 2, followed by rotating walkouts among subordinate organizations through Sept. 10, with normal operations planned for Sept. 3 and 7. All union members are scheduled to join a four-hour partial strike on Sept. 15. The union's strike authorization referendum drew 7,173 voters, with 6,777, or 94.48% of those voting, approving industrial action. The sides are due to hold their 18th main negotiation on Sept. 1, while talks have been increased from twice to three times weekly. The union is seeking a 149,600 won monthly base-pay increase, a 100% bonus increase, at least 30% of operating profit, inclusion of vacation allowances and congratulatory payments in ordinary wages, and new hiring. An actual strike would be the fourth consecutive year of industrial action since 2023.
