Radosław Piesiewicz, president of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), has been arrested and charged with paid influence and favoring certain creditors as prosecutors deepen a criminal inquiry into collapsed crypto exchange Zondacrypto. Justice Minister and Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek confirmed the Aug. 27 custody and said charges under Articles 230 and 302 of Poland’s criminal code followed questioning at the Silesian branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators are examining whether Piesiewicz received information that let him withdraw his full exchange holdings while other customers could not, and whether he offered to use contacts to help the platform with Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. A joint media probe also ties him to an alleged €40,000 Patek Philippe Calatrava watch linked to former Zondacrypto chief Przemysław Kral and to a 2025–2028 Olympic sponsorship that branded the Warsaw Olympic Center and promised crypto rewards for 2026 Milan-Cortina medalists. Piesiewicz denies wrongdoing, calls himself a victim of the exchange and says he paid for the watch in cash. Estimated customer losses stand at no less than 350 million zlotys, or about $94 million, with more than 3,600 complaints and over 100 million zlotys secured for possible compensation.
