Meta evaluated plans this year to invest as much as $10 billion annually in Anthropic’s AI models, potentially making it one of the company’s largest customers, The New York Times reported on Aug. 28. Although Meta has publicly criticized Anthropic and other AI laboratories over the risk of excessive industry concentration, the company privately uses Anthropic’s products and still pays hundreds of millions of dollars each month for its AI tools. Meta previously used Anthropic’s Claude Code tool to support internal development and test its forthcoming AI assistant, Hatch.
