About 60% of cryptocurrency platforms attacked since early 2025 had completed independent security audits by external organizations, CoinGecko said on Aug. 27. The attacks often exploited vulnerabilities outside the scope of standard reviews, showing that pre-launch audits, including checks of smart contracts (self-executing blockchain code), do not eliminate all security risks. CoinGecko said platforms also need ongoing management of security threats that can arise during operations. The report was attributed to JH Kim.
