Evonik will invest over 150 million CAD (93 million EUR) to build a GMP (good manufacturing practice) drug product manufacturing facility for lipid-based drug delivery in Vancouver, Canada. The project is supported by up to 68 million CAD (around 42 million EUR) from the Canadian federal government's Strategic Response Fund. Planned to begin production at the end of 2029, the facility will more than triple Evonik's current manufacturing capacity and serve pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers developing vaccines, therapeutics and other advanced medicines. The site will also expand quality-control and microbiological testing capabilities. Evonik Vancouver Laboratories, formerly Transferra Nanosciences and Northern Lipids, provides CDMO (contract development and manufacturing organization) services for LNP (lipid nanoparticle) and liposomal delivery systems. Evonik said the LNP market is estimated to reach US$2.7 billion by 2034, as demand for nucleic acid therapeutics grows.
