Rivian Automotive Chief Financial Officer Claire McDonough will step down on October 30, 2026, to relocate closer to her family on the East Coast and join energy company GE Vernova, where she is set to start in November before fully assuming the CFO role on January 1, 2027. She will remain Rivian’s CFO for about two months to support a seamless transition alongside CEO RJ Scaringe during the R2 platform ramp, and Rivian has said the resignation was not due to any disagreement. Vice President of Finance Derek Mulvey is expected to serve as interim CFO while Rivian evaluates internal and external candidates for a permanent finance chief. McDonough joined Rivian in January 2021, helped lead its $13.7 billion IPO, and was instrumental in structuring the company’s November 2024 Volkswagen partnership under which VW is to contribute up to $5.8 billion through 2027 for access to Rivian’s electrical architecture and software. After rising in regular trading Thursday and slipping after hours on the news, Rivian shares were down 6.13% at $15.77 Friday morning as investors digested the leadership transition.
