Crude oil held above $83 per barrel on Friday after rebounding in the previous session, as escalating Russia-Ukraine hostilities redirected market attention from the Middle East to Eastern Europe. Reports said Russian President Vladimir Putin described talks with Ukraine as unsuccessful and said Russia was preparing to intensify the war. Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries and ports are disrupting energy infrastructure and could limit exports of crude and refined products. Despite those supply risks, oil remained on track for a weekly decline as markets assessed signs of diplomatic progress in the Middle East and improving supply prospects through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s military said it had reached a revenue-sharing agreement with Oman over the waterway, but Tehran said the deal did not guarantee an immediate reopening.
