South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT selected consortiums led by SK Telecom, Kakao and KT for its government-backed "AI for Everyone" project after document and presentation evaluations of six bidders. The operators will receive a combined 512 Nvidia B200 GPUs this year, with 256 allocated to the first-ranked consortium and 128 each to the other two; rankings and scores were not disclosed. The consortiums must use South Korean-developed AI models for at least 50% of their services and add third-party domestic models for at least 30% beyond their own models. Free, unlimited general-purpose AI chatbots and public AI agents capable of handling public and everyday tasks must be made available to all South Korean citizens, while premium or personalized features may be monetized. Kakao's 14-member consortium plans a September beta centered on KakaoTalk and phone access, followed by a full service launch by year-end, while SK Telecom and KT are developing task-oriented and cross-platform approaches respectively. Government funding for nationwide service delivery is planned from 2027, making long-term revenue models a key sustainability question.
