Dunamu, operator of South Korea’s dominant Upbit exchange, has formed a strategic partnership with Visa to explore stablecoin-based payments, cross-border remittances and AI-driven financial services, according to reporting tied to an Aug. 28 announcement. The tie-up pairs Dunamu’s digital-asset stack with Visa’s global settlement network and targets next-generation finance built on stablecoins and artificial intelligence, though the firms have not locked in a specific product structure, blockchain, custody model or launch timeline. Both sides are reviewing business models that include OUSD, a dollar-pegged open-standard stablecoin still under development, among other options, and are studying services that combine AI with stablecoin payment and settlement rails. The deal follows Visa’s separate stablecoin settlement work with Shinhan in Korea and broader pilots elsewhere, and comes after traditional-finance interest in Dunamu that included a $670 million stake by Hana Bank earlier this year. Commercial form remains exploratory as Korean oversight of crypto transfers tightens and won-stablecoin rules continue to take shape.
