Samsung, SK, Hyundai and LG have pledged a combined 7 billion won to support residents and communities affected by heavy rains in southern South Korea. Their affiliates are supplying emergency goods, temporary shelter, communications services, appliance repairs and financial relief. The downpours from Aug. 15 through Thursday caused at least 187 landslides in Geoje and Tongyeong, according to the report. The latest figure revises the previously recorded 6 billion won commitment from Samsung, SK and LG. The new report gives the combined pledge as $5.1 billion, although that dollar equivalent is inconsistent with the won amount and the earlier record's $4.2 million conversion.
