Zcash is trading near $789 after climbing from around $509 on August 18 to about $878 on August 23, a roughly 72% gain, then retreating about 10% from that peak. Earlier reports pegged the August move near 80% from roughly $490 to nearly $868, with one high estimate around $880, and described the peak as an eight-year high. Grayscale Investments converted its 2017 Zcash trust into what is described as the first spot ZEC ETF, which began trading on NYSE Arca on August 25 as ZCSH with roughly $316 million in assets including inherited holdings. Santiment data showed social mentions hitting 232 on August 22, about six times the usual August baseline, before returning to baseline by launch day, with chatter peaking a day before the price high; earlier measures put August social dominance 183% above baseline. CoinGlass showed about $1.57 billion in ZEC futures open interest and $3.54 billion in 24-hour futures turnover versus $345 million in reported spot volume. Grayscale Research, in a report by Head of Research Zach Pandl, argued Zcash could challenge Bitcoin’s network effects as privacy demand grows amid expanding AI-powered surveillance, citing Bitcoin-like design, work on quantum-related cryptography risks, and cross-chain intents technology that can position ZEC as a private asset hub. ZEC has gained around 19 times over the past year yet remains under 1% of Bitcoin’s market capitalization, and Grayscale said those privacy features may be undervalued. The Zcash Foundation’s nonbinding NU7 advisory poll is scheduled to close September 14 at 19:00 UTC.
