Ethereum core developers upgraded EIP-8141, titled Frame Transactions, from Considered for Inclusion to Scheduled for Inclusion for the Hegotá network upgrade during the All Core Developers Execution call on August 27, 2026. The proposal introduces new transaction types with programmable features that blur the line between externally owned accounts and smart contract accounts. Benefits include atomic batching of operations into one transaction and third-party gas payments known as gas sponsorship. It also supports programmable validation for quantum computing resistant signatures. This effort integrates account abstraction at the protocol level to reduce reliance on ERC-4337 and off-chain infrastructure. With 66 proposals under consideration and a September 10, 2026, developer preference deadline, the Scheduled for Inclusion status positions EIP-8141 well for inclusion. Ethereum is closing the account abstraction gap with networks like Starknet, zkSync and Near Protocol, potentially simplifying applications for users. The Hegotá upgrade is scheduled for 2027 after the Glamsterdam upgrade in the fourth quarter of 2026.
