Korean biotech leaders warned that China’s rapid, lower-cost drug development is increasing pressure on South Korea’s industry and requires sharper competitive analysis, partnerships and regulation. Speaking at Seoul biotech conferences on August 28, Roche Business Development Director Jung Hwiyang said Chinese companies develop drugs at about one-third of U.S. costs and twice the speed, while accounting for more than 80% of meaningful global ADC technology-transfer deals over the past four years. Executives at the 2026 Global Bio Conference urged partnerships with Chinese firms, faster clinical-trial and regenerative-therapy rules, stronger funding and business-development strategies based on technologies that pharmaceutical companies actually want. They also said the ADC market is entering a winnowing phase in which deal volume has slightly declined while standards and individual deal sizes rise.
