Global pure-play foundry revenue grew 29% year over year in the second quarter of 2026 as demand for artificial intelligence semiconductors surged. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing retained a 73% market share, unchanged from the previous quarter and up from 71% a year earlier, while Samsung Electronics held 7%, leaving a 66-percentage-point gap. The top two companies controlled a combined 80% of the market. Counterpoint Research said AI orders and capacity reallocation have created supply-demand imbalances across advanced and mature process nodes. TSMC’s 2-nanometer process has entered volume production, 3nm capacity is expanding, and tight supply across 8-inch and 12-inch mature nodes and advanced packaging is keeping utilization high. Samsung is focused on improving SF2 2nm yields, while demand for its SF4 and SF5 nodes and higher wafer prices supported revenue growth without increasing market share. SMIC ranked third with 5%, followed by United Microelectronics at 4% and GlobalFoundries at 3%. Counterpoint expects wafer average selling prices to rise further and utilization rates to remain relatively high in the second half as AI servers, high-performance computing and edge-computing demand continue to support the market.
