China’s services imports and exports reached 3.8 trillion yuan, about $560.4 billion, in the first half of 2026, up 8.3% year on year, while services exports rose 17.6% and became a key driver of foreign trade growth, Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong said at a State Council Information Office press conference on Aug. 28. Travel, producer and cultural services powered the increase. Travel services exports climbed 31.1% to 229.2 billion yuan, approximately $34.1 billion, as 22.914 million foreign visitors entered China, up 20.4%. Intellectual property royalty exports rose 44.3%, financial services exports 25.9%, transport services exports 25.4%, and telecommunications, computer and information services exports 10.9%. Knowledge-intensive services accounted for 53.5% of services exports, three percentage points higher than at the end of 2025, while personal cultural and entertainment services exports increased 57.2%. Yan said China’s services trade had surpassed $1 trillion during the 14th Five-Year Plan period and was expected to maintain a generally positive trend for the full year. The 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services, or CIFTIS, will run at Beijing’s Shougang Park from Sept. 9 to 13, bringing together exhibitors from more than 90 countries and international organizations and over 1,800 companies. The fair will showcase financial technology, digital and smart healthcare, energy conservation and environmental protection, and new services supporting Chinese companies’ overseas expansion.
