POSCO Holdings has secured a ₩1 trillion ($728 million) short-term credit line from IDB Invest, the private-sector arm of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, for its Argentine brine lithium subsidiary. The financing supports working capital for POSCO Argentina’s first brine lithium plant and a second facility scheduled for completion in October. Once both plants operate at full capacity, annual production is expected to reach 50,000 tons. The new amount is higher than the $700 million figure previously reported for the facility. IDB Invest highlighted the project’s viability, competitiveness, environmental and social standards, and contribution to regional economic development. The credit line, along with Argentine investment incentives and POSCO Holdings’ approval under the RIGI framework, is expected to reduce financing costs and strengthen profitability as the company works to develop a China-free critical-mineral supply chain. POSCO Argentina recorded its first quarterly profit in the second quarter. The financing supports POSCO Group’s Triple Core strategy covering industrial, strategic and energy resources.
