France’s economy recorded 0.0% quarter-on-quarter growth in the second quarter of 2026, according to final INSEE data revised down from a 0.2% flash estimate and below market expectations of 0.2%. Year-on-year GDP rose 0.5%, down from the 0.7% flash reading and slower than 0.6% in the first quarter, when output had contracted 0.2%. Household consumption rebounded 0.3% after a 0.3% decline, lifted by food, energy and manufactured goods, while exports surged 2.9% after a 3.0% drop, driven by aircraft shipments linked to Airbus and other manufacturers. Domestic demand contributed 0.2 percentage points even as fixed investment fell 0.3%, inventories subtracted 0.7 points and private-sector payrolls declined 0.1%. July household spending rose 0.5% month-on-month and 1.4% year-on-year, pointing to continued consumption momentum. August flash CPI accelerated to 2.4% year-on-year from 2.1%, and HICP rose 2.7% versus 2.6% expected, leaving the ECB to balance stagnant French growth against inflation still above its 2% medium-term target.
