Brazil’s central bank has developed a real-time crypto threat alert system with blockchain security company Hypernative to connect banks, domestic exchanges and industry associations. Testing has been completed and some alerts have been issued, with integration expected to begin within two weeks. Foxbit and Mercado Bitcoin are participating. The project gained urgency after attackers stole an estimated $140 million to $180 million through C&M Software infrastructure in 2025 and converted part of the proceeds into Bitcoin, Ether and USDT through Brazilian exchanges and over-the-counter platforms. Brazil will separately require virtual asset service providers to impose a 24-hour preventive hold on qualifying transfers above $10,000 from Jan. 1, 2027, including certain transfers to foreign providers and self-custody wallets. The measures are intended to improve the detection and tracing of illicit funds as they move between conventional financial infrastructure and crypto markets.
