Belgium’s annual inflation rate rose to 3.97% in August 2026 from 3.56% in July, marking its strongest increase in three months, according to Statbel. Energy-price inflation accelerated to 16.47% from 10.59%, while housing utilities, clothing and footwear, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and several service categories also recorded faster price growth. Electricity inflation edged down to 7.8% from 7.9%. On a monthly basis, Belgium’s consumer price index (CPI) increased 0.41%, easing from July’s 0.63% rise. Price growth moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages, health, recreation and culture, and miscellaneous goods and services. The figures add to the inflation picture monitored by the European Central Bank (ECB) when assessing euro-area monetary policy, although further releases are needed to determine whether the acceleration is sustained.
